Some Soul Food For You

Written by Soul X Food

If you’re reading this, you’ve been blessed with the opportunity to experience another Ramadan - alhamdulillah. We feel like this beautiful month has come at the best time for our souls, to refresh, renew intentions & realign ourselves with our true purpose - to do all we can to strive towards Allah (swt). We know the given climate can feel tough to bear, but we pray this Ramadan is a fruitful one of peace and blessings for your soul, and your loved ones inshaAllah.

Given that it’s easy to feel alone in a month that’s normally full with breaking fast in community iftars, visiting the mosque for taraweeh each night and generally just spending time with others, here’s our top tips for continuing the Ramadan spirit - just online!

  • For daily reflections on each chapter of the Quran, check out Yaqeen Institute or Yasir Qadhi.

  • If you’re up for it, Ilm Feed is doing a Surah Mulk challenge, with daily prompts and tips to help you memorise such a powerful Surah, which holds lots of benefit!

  • A mini series which we’re currently loving is Omar Suleiman's web series Angels in your Presence - available on his Instagram and YouTube pages, we guarantee you will finish each clip having learnt something new about this amazing creation.

  • For some great podcasts, listen to the Heartwork series by Qalam Institute - the current series is discussing the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (saw), but we loved their previous Tafsir of Surah Maryam too!

  • As for books, we recommend Secrets of Divine Love by A. Helwa, which really helps you to reconnect with Allah (swt) and fall in love with the beauty of Islam, no matter what you’re going through.

  • Here are some great organisations to follow on Instagram that are working extremely hard to bring you free Ramadan-specific content to enrich your mind, body and soul: Ramadan Tent Project, A M A L I A H, Open Iftar, Faith Space, Cambridge Muslim College, Green Deen Tribe, Roots

And for those who are breaking fast alone, or missing iftars in general - we’ll be holding a mid Ramadan Soul Food Virtual Iftar on Sunday 10th May, we’d love for you to join us there - keep an eye out on Soul X Food for the eventbrite link.

Lastly we want to remind you that it was in isolation that the People of the cave received divine mercy and protection, that from the belly of a whale Yunus (as)’s dua calling to Allah was answered, that Maryam (ra) was given news of the miraculous birth of Prophet Esa (as) and that our Beloved Prophet (saw) was given revelation of the Quran. We may be physically confined, but just as the righteous before us, let’s use this time to become spiritually refined inshaAllah.

Sending you love ♥️
